Mission Statement: Rising like a phoenix from the ashes of Greenwood and inspired by a vision of social and economic justice for all, Church of the Restoration offers a spiritual home based on Unitarian Universalist principles. Our mission is to build a multicultural, multiracial congregation, to promote spiritual growth, and to advocate for racial equity.
Located within the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation, The Greenwood District was known as “The Black Wall Street” and the infamous Tulsa Race Riot of 1921, where 36 blocks of businesses, and homes were burned to the ground. This neighborhood went from a thriving African-American community of homes and businesses to ashes within hours. Hundreds were killed. And Tulsa still struggles with the hurt, and massacre of its history.
